Building A High PR Network

We have looked closely at how to build good backlinks. You now know how to build the perfect backlink.

Getting the perfect backlink can be difficult and usually requires either a lot of hard work through guest posting or requires you to run the risk of a penalty by using blog networks.

However, there is a very good alternative to using either of these techniques and that is to build your own high PR network of sites.

Building a Private Network

There are 2 ways to build your own network.

The most powerful way is to buy aged domains that already have authority, PageRank and backlinks built to them.

Then simply re-purposing the sites to suit your own specific niche.

This approach can be time-consuming and expensive but the pay-off is well worth it in rankings and increased revenue.

We will look at this type later in this section.

The other type of private network involves the use of free platforms such as free blogs and web 2.0 properties.

Building Networks on Free Platforms

Obviously the biggest advantage of using platforms like blogger or livejournal is that they are free. They also have a lot of authority which Google loves these days.

You Can Build a Network of Free Sites

You Build a Network of Free Sites

Even though you are creating a free site, due to the way the Google algorithm works, the fact that the root domain of your free site has authority and PageRank this is enough to give your new site a boost that normal bought sites don’t get.

The downfall of using these type of sites for your network is the lack of PageRank that you would have if you bought aged domains that already have PR. In addition you must also accept the total lack of control you have over such sites.

Imagine how you would feel if you built a site on a free platform, filled it with great quality relevant and helpful content.

You then start building backlinks to that site until you get its main page to a PageRank 6 just to have the domain Admin switch off your site because they no longer like the content or don’t approve of your link.

Believe it or not this happens all too regularly.

For this reason many Seos who use free platforms must build them in bulk and quickly to keep their network above a threshold level. This can only be done by using software.

GSA, SEnuke X CR, Seo Link Robot, Ultimate Demon and a host of other software applications have exploded onto the market in response to the need for building backlinks fast.

You should be very careful if you use an automated link building software as your site will get banned by Google if you are discovered using them.

You should also ensure you maintain good link type diversity and make sure you keep you anchor text ratios within acceptable parameters.

Buying Aged Domains

Buying your own aged domains that already have established backlinks and good PageRank is by far the best way to get the perfect backlink.

When building your own network you need to do your due diligence when choosing which domain to buy. There are several steps you need to put into motion and a few essential processes you must follow so you do not end up over-paying for a domain with fake PR or one that is banned or hit by a penalty. We will address all these issue shortly.

Before we explain how to perform your due diligence you should be aware that you cannot host your new network sites in the same way that you host your normal sites.

Most sites are hosted on shared hosting packages that allow for unlimited websites to be added. This is more for convenience than price as having all your related sites in one cPanel has many advantages.

However for networked sites used for backlink purposes this is a very bad idea. You do not want the sites to be linked in any way and Google can easily spot a network that is hosted on the same C Class.

To achieve this you can host each site in its own account but this is a very expensive option. Instead use Seo hosting so you can assign an individual IP address to each site but keep them all easily accessible “under the same roof” so to speak. It is also considerably cheaper than hosting each site separately.

so Google does not know they are related or owned by the same person. To hide your connection to the sites within your network you will also need to pay the few dollars extra for web privacy settings to hide your whois details such as your name and address.

Finding Aged Domains

There are a few applications available that can help you find aged domains with PageRank such as PR Powershot but you can really find them on your own by visiting any domain auction.

Anything over 1 year old is considered aged and will serve your purposes nicely.

When looking for an aged domain for your network the most important thing to consider is its PageRank.

**A Word of Warning**

Be careful as PageRank can be easily faked!

You must do your due diligence before you pay any money for a domain. There are many unscrupulous sellert5s out there who deliberately fake the PageRank of a domain and there are many more who fake it unknowingly simply by redirecting a dead site to a working one.

You see any domain that is 301 redirected to another domain will eventually “assume” the PageRank of the site it is redirected to. But it is not real PageRank.

Googlebot simply assigns the PageRank of the site being redirected to but this PageRank will disappear in the next PageRank update once the 301 redirect is removed. Even before this happens the PageRank of the site is only visible in the Google toolbar…Google does not recognise it at all. A domain with fake PageRank has no PageRank at all just a fake bar in the Google toolbar.

Due Diligence

It is important to not just take a seller’s word for it that a domain’s PageRank is authentic.

Even legitimate and honest sellers sometimes have bad domains. It is up to you to ensure you are getting what you pay for.

You Must Investigate a Potential Domain's PageRank

You Must Investigate a Potential Domain’s PageRank

But, before we show you ways to investigate PageRank there are a few other things you need to be careful of.

First of all make sure the domain is still listed in Google.

Use the code:

Replacing “” with the url of the site you are investigating.

If Google does not return the site then it has been de-indexed and you should not buy it under any circumstances!

Investigating PageRank

To start your investigation into the PageRank of the site for sale you should first check Google for 301 redirects.

Use the code:

If Google returns a different site then you know that the domain you are considering buying has been redirected and its PR is fake.

Pass it by.

A 301 Redirect Can Create False PageRank

A 301 Redirect Can Create False PageRank

This is not a fail-safe test however. If the domain passing this test it does not mean it is safe.

To be sure the PageRank is not due to a 301 redirect go to the wayback machine and search for a redirect in the previous 4 moths. If there has been a redirect the wayback machine will show it and investigating the site redirected to will probably show you where the real PageRank is coming from.

If there has been no redirects everything is looking goo so far but you still have one more check to perform.

Checking the Backlinks

A domain gets it PageRank from backlinks.

Checking the backlinks to the root domain of the site you want to buy is the last check you need to make to determine if the site you are thinking of buying has legitimate PageRank and if the PageRank is real will the site keep the backlinks giving it its PageRank when you re-purpose the site.

Some sites may have very good backlinks but they are relatively new and will almost certainly be removed when the linking site discovers that you have completely changed the intent of your newly acquired domain.

Aged backlinks of 1 year or more are unlikely to be removed and sites with these type sof links are great candidates for network sites.

You can use free tool such as Seo SpyGlass to make this work easier and faster.

The video below shows how to use teh tool to analyse competitor’s backlinks but the concept remains the same for looking at a potential network site you want to buy.

You want to see how strong the site’s backlinks are and how many high PR links it has. Use the PageRank table to see if the PageRank of the site matches the king of links it has.

If everything checks out then you are good to go.

After you find a domain you then have to build a site and treat it like a main money site if you really want to get the most from it.

Fill it with quality unique content and then link back to your main money site from the home page. You can also use a silo structure to send link juice through the entire site and use the internal pages to link to other properties you own or you can add a site wide link in the blog roll or footer to just one of your sites.

You are probably starting to realise why building your own network is not something many marketers like to do due to the amount work involved but the pay-off is huge.

Private networks are proven to be the most powerful ranking weapon in any Seo’s arsenal so do not overlook using them.

The fact that most Seos are lazy is even more reason to use them as they will keep you well ahead of the competition.

You can also use these high PR domains to attract other high PR links from other webmasters in a really neat way.
